A calm, safe way to make deeper change possible

During hypnotherapy you enter a state of deep relaxation and focused attention. You remain consciously present, while the usual noise of everyday thinking becomes softer. This allows us to work with the layer where beliefs, emotions and automatic responses are stored.

In my practice, careful guidance is combined with methods that fit your request for help. The goal is not only to gain insight, but also to break recurring patterns so you can experience more calm, resilience and self-direction.

The most important questions about hypnotherapy

What is hypnotherapy?

What is hypnotherapy and how does it work?

Hypnotherapy is a recognised, in-depth form of psychotherapy in which hypnosis is used as a tool. Hypnosis is not sleep, but a natural state of focused attention and deep relaxation. Think of becoming fully absorbed in a good film, where outside stimuli fade into the background.

During hypnotherapy you remain consciously present, but your attention turns more inward. The usual noise of thinking, analysing and controlling becomes softer. This creates space to work with feelings, memories, body sensations and inner beliefs.

Beliefs, emotions and automatic reactions are often stored in the subconscious. By working with that layer carefully, we can explore where complaints or patterns come from and what is needed to make change possible.

What is the difference between hypnosis and hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis is the state of deep relaxation and focused attention. Hypnotherapy is the therapeutic use of that state. In other words, hypnosis is the tool, hypnotherapy is the treatment.

During hypnotherapy we use that state of attention to work with complaints, emotions, beliefs and recurring patterns. So it is not only about relaxation, but about meaningful change at a deeper level.

Control and safety during hypnotherapy

Do I have control during hypnosis?

A common misunderstanding is that you lose control or that the therapist takes over. That image comes from stage hypnosis. In professional therapeutic hypnosis, the opposite is true: throughout the session you remain fully in control of yourself and your free will.

Modern hypnotherapy uses a natural form of trance that allows you to let go enough to work at a deeper level, while still remaining alert and aware. This is exactly what makes it possible to work with emotional, psychological or physical complaints in a deeper way.

Is hypnotherapy safe?

When hypnosis is applied by a recognised and well-trained therapist, hypnotherapy is a safe and natural method. You do not lose consciousness and you do not do anything against your will.

I always assess carefully whether hypnotherapy is appropriate. With certain psychiatric conditions, such as severe depression, hypnotherapy may not be advisable.

That does not automatically mean hypnotherapy is never possible, but it does mean we need to look carefully at what is responsible beforehand. Sometimes it is wise to consult a doctor, psychologist or another practitioner.

What can you expect from a session or a course of therapy?

What happens during a session?

A hypnotherapist guides you step by step into a relaxed and safe state of attention. You do not have to perform or force anything. I ask questions, give focused guidance and help you connect with what is happening inside.

Beforehand, we talk about your request for help and what you would like to achieve. The treatment is always tailored to your situation. Depending on what fits, we may work with relaxation, visualisations, regression therapy, parts work, ego strengthening or suggestive therapy.

Many people feel calm, relaxed or lighter after a session. Sometimes you may also notice that something continues to work through afterwards, such as tiredness, emotions or new insights. At the end we always take a moment to come back fully, so you can leave grounded and clear.

How many hypnotherapy sessions do I usually need?

That depends on your request for help, the intensity of your complaints and how long certain patterns have been present. Some people notice clear change after only a few sessions, while others need more time to work at a deeper level.

During an introduction or intake we look together at your situation and what would be a logical course of therapy. The aim is not to do more sessions than necessary, but to work carefully towards lasting change.

Can hypnotherapy help if I do not know the cause?

Yes, it can. Many people do feel that something is bothering them, but cannot explain exactly where it comes from. That is completely normal.

With hypnotherapy we explore step by step which feelings, beliefs or experiences may lie underneath your complaint. You do not need to have everything figured out before you can begin.

What can hypnotherapy help with?

Hypnotherapy can help with a wide range of complaints. Think of stress, fear, insecurity, trauma, restlessness, eating problems and recurring patterns that are hard to reach through talking alone.

Not every request for help is the same. That is why we always look at what lies underneath the complaint and which approach fits best. In the overview below you can see what you can come to Soulsence for.
